Who this policy covers
This policy covers IP Lens tools and pages. For privacy enquiries, use our Contact page. Diagnostic services, external sites, your browser and the website host have their own policies.
Opening the website
Loading a page requires your browser to contact the website's host. The host may receive your IP address, requested URL, browser information and request time, and may keep operational or security logs. The application source does not establish the host's logging settings or retention period, so we do not promise that a visit is anonymous or that hosting logs are never kept.
The current application has no visitor account system, analytics scripts or advertising scripts. It does not send a diagnostic report to an IP Lens application server.
Information kept in your browser
The site saves your selected language under iplens-language in localStorage. It is a preference, not a query log. You can remove it through your browser's site-data settings; the next visit will use the default language behavior.
Up to 20 recent IP lookups and the working report remain in the current tab's memory. Reloading starts a new working session; these records are not saved by the application in localStorage. The browser information tool reads properties such as language, screen size, time zone and user agent, then computes a local summary when supported. This check does not transmit that summary to a diagnostic provider.
Requests you choose to run
Diagnostics start when you submit a lookup or run a check. A provider receiving a request can see your network address and the query required for that check:
- IP location: ipwho.is, with ipapi.co as a fallback, receives the address being looked up. A domain is first resolved through Google Public DNS.
- DNS and CDN clues: Google Public DNS receives the queried domain and record type.
- IPv4 / IPv6: ipify receives requests used to identify the browser's public exits.
- WebRTC: your browser contacts Google STUN to gather connection candidates. This test does not request camera or microphone access.
- HTTP latency: Google and Cloudflare DNS endpoints receive test requests from your browser.
- Registration: rdap.org routes an IP, domain or ASN query to the relevant registry.
- Service status: supported checks request official OpenAI, Anthropic and GitHub status feeds.
Providers may process and retain requests under their own terms. IP Lens does not control their retention or regional processing. Do not enter confidential internal hostnames or other sensitive information.
The Local network check runs only after you press Start. It requests a file from this website, queries example.com A records through Google Public DNS up to three times, and contacts ipify’s IPv4/IPv6 endpoints. Connection type, estimated downlink/RTT and data-saver settings are read only when supported; these properties are not sent as query parameters to test endpoints. Results stay in the current tab’s memory and can be included in a report you choose to download.
Downloads, display masking and external links
JSON downloads are created in your browser and include completed checks. IP masking changes the display; it does not remove full addresses or browser information from the report. Downloaded files remain on your device until you remove them. Review a file before sharing it.
External links can send you to a map provider, public reputation service, registry, official status page or crt.sh certificate search. The link may include the address, domain or coordinates needed for that destination. Its privacy policy applies when you visit.
Messages and your choices
If you email us, your address, message and any attachments are processed through email services to handle the enquiry. Do not include unnecessary personal information. You may ask about that correspondence through the Contact page; applicable rights depend on your location and the information involved. We do not promise a fixed email retention period in this policy.
You can avoid optional provider requests by not running the relevant checks, clear site preferences, close the working tab and remove downloaded files. Those actions do not delete records already held by a third party.
Current advertising status and future changes
No Google AdSense or other advertising script is currently loaded by this application. If Google advertising is added, Google and other vendors may use cookies or similar technologies to serve, measure and personalize ads based on visits to this and other sites. Before enabling it, the operator must update the actual vendor disclosures and introduce any required consent and withdrawal controls.
Google explains how partner-site data is used; preferences are available through Google Ad Settings. Applicable consent requirements must be addressed before advertising begins. This paragraph does not mean that ads are active or consent has already been collected.
Policy updates
Feature, provider or data-handling changes may require a revised policy. The date above identifies this version. Contact us if this explanation does not match what you observe.
